Mastering

EquilizerIf you've ever wondered why a recording you've made doesn't have the extra "shimmer" or "punch" you've heard in commercial recordings, it's possible the recording wasn't mastered properly or at all.

Mastering is the final creative step that occurs before a recording project is released to the public.  Each project warrants its own special consideration.  At Amodeo Music we have many years experience in producing outstanding results.

Mastering may consist of one or all of the following steps:

1. Editing computer screenEditing: Final mixes of the projects are delivered to our studio on the various formats including reels, DATs, and digital media. The mixes are sequenced into the order you specify and correct spacing is made between cuts. Beginnings and ends of cuts are faded to black (silence).  Pops, clicks and noises can often be removed at the mastering stage.  Depending on the source and severity, this is achieved using noise reduction techniques.

2. Editing equipmentSweetening: At this step, equalizers (EQ), limiters, compressors, reverbs, and dynamic processors may be applied. This is where clarity, smoothness, impact, and "punch" are enhanced, depending on the needs of the music.  If done correctly, most listeners can tell the difference from the original mixes and the final mastered mix.  Some of the equipment we use is vintage hardware, and some is high-end software designed for this purpose.

3. Output: The finished product is then transferred in WAV, AIFF, or a number of different available files up to 24-bit /96kHz, DAT, DVD or magnetic tape. The audio can be transferred via the Internet, or conventional ground or air services to any destination worldwide.
